Robert Kiyosaki, the famous author of “Rich Dad Poor Dad,”  and Co-Author (along with D. Trump), of “Why We Want You To Be Rich”, recently shared these powerful insights about: What makes people win or lose?

For some of us “winning” is a very simple concept. You create  a goal, you make a plan and when you achieve it, you are a winner.  We all consciously want to win, but there’s actually much more to it then that, because the way your mindset operates in the background, it has its own definition for “winning,” and whether you like it or not, you are controlled by it.

THERE ARE 5 TYPES OF MINDSETS:

1. The person that wins when they are comfortable. This person’s primary goal is to just go through life as comfortably as possible. They don’t want to be pushed or challenged. Everything they do is designed to support their pursuit of comfort.

This is your average, life-long employee type who’s more than happy to have a safe, stable, comfortable job…or they hope it is.  If getting rich means doing something even a little uncomfortable, forget it.

2. The person that wins by being liked. This person’s primary goal in life is to be liked. They want acceptance from everyone, and will do just about anything to reach that goal. They’d rather be liked, than be right or wrong or rich.

When you put someone like this in a leadership role, the business will usually fail because they won’t be willing to make difficult decisions that would upset someone. They would try to please everyone all the time because their ultimate motivation is to be liked by others. Between being liked and being rich, they choose being liked.

3. The person that wins by being right. This person is usually an expert in a specific field like a professor or an engineer. People who win by being right, don’t accept criticism and aren’t open to learning.

They tend to reach a ceiling when it comes to money, their career, and relationships, because they can’t accept their short-comings in order to move past them and achieve personal growth.  Arguing with this person never works because they’ll always find a way to prove you wrong.

In order to win, this person must be right, even if it means sabotaging their chances to success.

4. The person that wins by losing. This person wins by being a victim.  All they want is sympathy from others. If something goes wrong it’s never their fault.  And, just when things start to go right, they will sabotage themselves to make it go wrong and say, “I knew it wouldn’t work” and give you a long list of reasons that blame someone else.

Their lives are always filled with problems because they don’t win unless they lose, so they create circumstances and excuses that help them fulfill that destiny. These are the typical people that say “Your opportunity is not real.” “Your product doesn’t do anything.” “I don’t have the money.”  “This is just another scam.”

5. The person that wins by winning. This person makes decisions quickly and moves with deliberate force and without fear of failure. They are risk takers… THIS IS THE MASTER BUILDER MIND SET.  Their primary motivation is to win. They are very competitive, and will do whatever it takes to win. They won’t quit, they’ll work around the clock and they’ll constantly learn and push themselves to gain the edge they need……THIS IS THE MINDSET THAT YOU MUST ADOPT IF YOU WANT TO BUILD A MASSIVE BUSINESS THAT WILL PAY YOU $300,000 TO $600,000 WITHIN THE NEXT 18 TO 36 MONTHS….DOES IT REQUIRE WORK?  YOU BET IT DOES, BUT WHAT IN LIFE WORTH ANYTHING DOESN’T REQUIRE HARD WORK…

This category describes many leaders on our team…… and all other successful entrepreneurs in general, so you also want to develop this mindset if you’re looking to win big!   Winning is their reward! This type of person welcomes the necessary discomfort that naturally confronts them because it provides new opportunities to win. They don’t rollover and say, “I quit” because the challenge was difficult.

ACCEPT DISCOMFORT AS A WELCOMED FRIEND, SINCE IT MEANS THAT YOU’RE ATTEMPTING TO DO SOMETHING THAT MOST WON’T.  KNOW THAT THIS DISCOMFORT IS ONLY TEMPORARY, BUT THAT THE FINANCIAL FREEDOM AND TIME FREEDOM WILL LAST A LIFETIME!

After reading this section, you’re probably taking a hard look at yourself right now… Which one of Kiyosaki’s 5 mindsets are you currently operating in?

There are people who are not wealthy because they want to be right. There are people who never build a business they want to be comfortable. There are people who are constantly struggling because they win by losing.

All I know is this: Entrepreneurs win by winning, and they’ll do whatever it takes to fulfill that subconscious desire. Developing a winning mind set is the key to your succes

Joyce,

I love this article! Marc and I were just discussing yesterday the trap that some marketers fall into of what I call “opportunity hopping”. Your #5 is what they need to strive for!

Thanks for writing this! It’s spot on and I my aim is to be included in that #5 classification.
